Bac Ha 2 Day Bike Tour from Lao Cai

Bac Ha 2 Day Bike Tour from Lao Cai is a northern Vietnam mountain biking adventure. Begin the bike ride in Lao Cai, cycling uphill and downhill for about 50 - 80K per day to explore Bac Ha Vietnam.

DAY 1: LAO CAI – BAC HA

Early this morning, you will be greeted by our local team at Lao Cai Train Station and transferred to a local restaurant for breakfast. 

After breakfast, you load your bikes onto the support vehicles for a 45-minute transfer to the small village of Phong Nien. Your adventure begins on a good hardpack track along the side of a quiet road. Climbing gently for the first 10 kilometers, you will be able to watch the local villagers working in the fields, dressed in their flamboyant traditional costumes. You then descend steeply for another 7 kilometers to a small village and footbridge that crosses the Song Chay River. Here, you will board one of the traditional Vietnamese longboats and transfer for half an hour through a high cliffed gorge. There is the option of a short single-track section following the riverbank, before your longboat takes you across the river, to a Tay village and lunch at a traditional homestead. This village is also where your support vehicle meets up with you for the first time since the start of your biking day. The afternoon presents you with a tough alpine switchback road that climbs 1000 meters over 17 kilometers, before a final 5 kilometer descent into the highland market town of Bac Ha. DAY 2: BAC HA – LAO CAI

After breakfast, enjoy a short walk to visit the old castle of the former H’mong King – Hoang A Tuong is located right in the town of Bac Ha. From there you can have a great view over the town. You will then discover the market of Bac Ha with its colorful array of ethnic minority people such as Flower Hmong, Phu La, Black Dao, Tay, Nung who gather to buy and sell. The market is only open on Sunday morning.

In the afternoon, have a short bike ride to Ban Pho is home to the Flower Hmong and Nung. Take a break to discover this village before heading back to Lao Cai, either by bicycle or by car. The bicycle ride is easy as we mostly ride downhill, past rural area, which is home to the Phu La, Nung and Tay. Take a short break in Lao Cai, at the place where the Red River flows into Viet Nam territory, then catch the overnight train back to Hanoi.
